The confirmation is that St Cloud State's Women's team will be a varsity
team this coming year in transition to a full varsity DI program, with
scholarships in another year. For 1998-99 they will play some DI schools
and some DIII and club squads.
This is great news as women's college hockey now has 40 varsity teams.
The Midwest now has Minnesota, Bemidji State, Mankato State and St Cloud
State as Division I teams. In 1999-2000 another group of schools plan to
be DI varsity sides: Minnesota-Duluth, Ohio State, Wisconsin and probably
Michigan. That could make for a nice 8 team DI Midwest league, with an
imbedded Big Ten league no less!
Allez Huskies!
