After having returned from the CCHA Playoffs at the Joe Louis Arena, I wish
to comment on the "officiating". How are the Scorers chosen? Is it similar
to baseball - where some sports writers are given the honor or are they
chosen by merit. I and other fans with a particular angle thought that a
second period goal shot by MSU went in and out without the light going on.
No one except some fans seem to see it. Ron Mason nor his coaching staff
seemed to care to protest - not that I think it would be successful. Not
seeming to care whether State won or lost seemed to be contagious with the
team. Ferris outplayed State for the first half of the game and State
came back at the end to make a game of it. I place this attitute on the
coaching staff which allowed Ferris to beat a better team. Ferris definately
wanted to win and were rewarded - State played for "next year". BTW, Bryan
Smolinski (MSU's leading scorer) didn't play at all.

The Michigan - Lake Superior game showed that they are the best two teams in
the Central. LSSU won three games in three days and I predict they will
play in the Finals against Maine with Maine winning by a goal.
