Sunday afternoon's game at Bright Hockey Center was an evenly played
match between the Harvard Crimson and the Queen's College Golden Gaels
from Ontario.

The first period was scoreless, but some concentrated pressure by the
Gaels suggested in the end they would be able to out-skate Harvard.
In the second period Queen's open the scoring when Simone Wilson
(Julie Walker, Sarah Hurst) knocked in a bouncing rebound. The goal
was set up by the Canadians' basic play: break in, take the puck to a
corner or behind the net, and center it. The Crimson responded when
Jo-anne Alissi (Stacy Kellogg, Francie Walton) shot home a power-play
goal from the left slot. The power-play was Harvard's third of the
game. The third period was up and down hockey, with the Golden Gaels
pulling it out in the last minute. Hilary Thomas (Kate Houze,
Jacquie Robb) scored after a 3 on 3 break-in resulted in a series of
quick shots, and the eventually game winning goal.

Queen's College is a good skating team. To my way of thinking they
spend too much time setting up "picks" and holding on to the other
players sticks. They would be a much better team if they spent more
practice time on puck control. They have a strong basic game, which
includes good use of a "checking" coverage, but lack the imagination/
skill to pull off the killer plays. I thought Hurst and Tanya Casey
played really well for them. In the third period they broke in
and ripped off a couple of quick shots which Erin Villiotte just
managed to save.

Harvard needs to work on its skating. Hockey is not a game of chess.
One has to move in order to counter or make plays. The bright spot
today was the play of Holly Leitzes. A first-year defender who played
a good defensive game, and led several rushes up ice. One of those
rushes, with classmate Stacy Kellogg, was a nicely executed 1-2 play
up the gut of the Golden Gaels defense. It did not score, but it was
a good attempt. The second line (Megan Hall, Diana Clark, Sara
Simmons) continues to produce offensive thrusts. Today again they
looked the most likely to score. The other positive Crimson note
would be the strong game played by Joey Alissi. She made several
rushed happen. I thought she looked best when she was playing with
the "What's-my-line" line of (Hall, Alissi, Clark). If played often
that line has an interesting potential. Hall set-up Alissi nicely,
while Clark provided a good stablizing force to the line as she
can shoot, skate and back-check well.

Overall, a game worth watching. Both teams were close in skill, and
put forth a good effort.

Next match: Brown 2/3/93 7pm.
