TECH WINS 6-4 AT HOME OVER ALASKA ANCHORAGE
Weinberger Has Big Night With Two Goals And An Assist
Houghton, Mich. -- Jarrett Weinberger had two goals and an assist to
lead the Michigan Tech men's ice hockey team to a 6-4 Western
Collegiate
Hockey Association victory over the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves before
a noisy crowd at the MacInnes Student Ice Arena in Houghton,
Mich., Friday
night
Tech got off to a 1-0 lead just :46 into the game as Tim
Laurila capitalized
off a Seawolve turnover. UAA would tie the game at 5:29 on
Chris Sikich's
power play marker. The Huskies, however, got three goals in
the back half
of the first period, including two in the final 1:12, to take
a 4-1 lead
after one period. Tech markers came from Paul Cabana on the power play,
Tony DeLorenzo, and Chris Durno.
UAA fought back to make it 4-3 with two goals in the first 7:29 of the
middle period, but the first of two goals on the night from
Jarrett Weinberger
came at 11:59 of the second to put Tech back to a two-goal cushion at
5-3 headed into the third period.
The never-say-die Seawolves against closed to within a goal just 1:19
into the third, but Weinberger sealed the win on a nice feed
from freshman
defenseman Justin Brown with :59 left to account for the 6-4
final score.
Brian Rogers played the first 42:21 and had 22 saves in picking up the
win. Jason Moilanen finished the game and had seven stops. Kevin Reiter
played the first period in net for UAA and had six saves on 10 shots.
Chris King played the final two periods and made 13 stops.
Tech goes for the sweep Saturday (Jan. 20) with faceoff at 7:05 p.m.
(EST) in Houghton.
