Ice Hockey
The U.S. Team has been struggling during a lengthy and rugged pre-Olympic
schedule. This is not a team that will be filled with locals. Only five
Minnesotans are playing and none has stood out. The final roster isn't set,
and no one is guaranteed a spot. Former Gophers Tom Pederson, Lance
Pitlick, and Robb Stauber are on the squad, along with longtime minor
leaguer and Olympian Jim Johansson of Rochester and defenseman Bret Hedican
of St Cloud State and North St Paul. Forward Grant Bischoff of Grand Rapids
has been out with an illness. --Jay Weiner, Staff Writer
I didn't see Pitlick playing last night against the Russian team and it looks
very bleak to say the least for Minnesotans to be on the hockey team. :-(
The announcers last night said that the new uniforms the Russians had on
were brand new and being worn for the first time.
