I don't know why, but I can't help myself. I'll wade into this annual mudder.

Harry Emmian
Harry abhors physical play. In the last game at the Fieldhouse Harry called an
Army skater for roughing on an RPI forward at center ice (sorry, don't remember
who--I guess I should turn in my cherry red sweatshirt). The RPI skater had the'pe
puck! He was trying to get rid of it when the Army skater nailed him. 100%
clean in my book. (Would I be saying that if RPI had lost......well) Harry
likes to call penalties. But you never know which period. mes Harry
Harry likes to call everything in the first period--which means you can expect
that the same things will go uncalled in the third. Watch out for the slugfest.
Or, alternatively, play will go unimpeded in the first period, then a parade of
bodies will fill the sin bin for the second and third. This is usually the p
pattern when he is paired with John Gallagher.

Harry also has a catch-all penalty--highsticking.

But I don't think he's the worst. Some of the new guys in the ECAC definitely
need seasoning, if not education.

The Best
The guy I also hold up is Rob Hearn. I'm not sure if he is doing many games in
college anymore. He may be into AHL or higher the majority of time. N
Nevertheless he is quality. He allows a physical style of play. This didn't
endear him to the Swedes in the Olympic championship game against Canada. He
doesn't call many dives. He is very consistent. He seems to be the closest
collegiate ref to an NHL style of officiating. But he doesn't allow the dirty
stuff to go unnoticed. All in all, a very fine official.

So much for my two cents.
