I just talked with Patti Riha in Bloomington. Her name and phone number were
on the Hobey information that was handed out last March here in St. Paul.
I asked her why it was that they were charging to see the presentation this
year. She told me that the presentation has never officially been open to the
public, although if people asked, they were told where it was and were not
turned away for lack of media credentials. Evidently it has been in the past a
media event and what happened in Milwaukee, when many Maine fans showed up,
greatly distressed the media in attendance. Ms. Riha said that it turned the
ceremony into a pep-fest. (those are HER words not mine, so put those flame
throwers down!)
She said that this year in Providence they figured that there would be a venue
to do a public presentation of the Hobey. There will also be a "media-only"
information presentation before the public presentation.
She was very nice and listened to all my comments and told me that they have
received several letters and comments about the entry charge this year. It is
a test run and they MAY NOT ever do it this way again. (hope NOT!)
So if you want to make a comment to the committee, please feel free.
Here again is the address, phone and FAX numbers for Patti Riha
