From an article today in the Star Tribune...

The Gophers originally were slated to go to Alaska-Anchorage last week, but it
was rescheduled for Dec. 29-30. ....The Gophers had the option of having a two-
week training camp and taking one week off during the season, but chose to have
a three-week camp and take the current two-week break for exams.....Coaches
are not allowed to be present for any workouts this week....Gophers center
Darby Hendrickson has resumed skating, but undoubtedly will be kept out of
action to let his healing shoulder recover fully. He should be at full strength
by the time the Gophers play their Jan. 2-3 tournament. That tournament,
incidentally, will be called the St. Paul Companies Mariucci Classic, with the
St. Paul Companies insuring financial support. <I don't like this and I don't
understand WHAT they will be supporting??? The trophies???> This year, Illinois
-Chicago plays St. Lawrence at 4pm, with the Gophers facing Ferris State at 7pm
on Jan. 2. The third-place game and title game follow on Jan. 3 again at 4pm
and 7pm. <I don't know how they expect us all to stay in a freezing cold arena,
for 5-6 hours and not be allowed outside for dinner or any other type of
break! BOO to the brilliant person that scheduled this!!>

UMD's Derek Plante has moved into a tie with Denver's Angelo Ricci for the
WCHA points lead. Plante has 13 goals and 14 assists for 27 points, while Ricci
 is 12-15--27.

Plante was WCHA Player of the Week last week, after UMD swept Wisconsin. This
week, the Player of the Week is St. Cloud State's Fred Knipscheer, who scored
two goals in the 5-2 opener at CC, then added three goals and three assists in
the 9-5 second game for an eight-point weekend.

That's all from the frozen north for now.
-Carol
