Congrats to CC. They were the better team last night.
I hope they can beat Michigan tonight. Enjoy the game, Karen.

It was great to get to see some college hockey in person again. We did go
to the first day of the Icebreaker tournament back in October, but nothing
since then. I'm glad St. Louis has gotten to host some events recently,
but unfortunately attendance hasn't been that great at either event. Even
with the upper bowl completely closed off, there were still quite a few
empty seats. It doesn't help when the participating schools are about 400,
500, 800 and 1,200 miles away from the site.

We were sort-of rooting for UNO in the first game, being another WCHA team
and not wanting to hear "Hail to the Victors" too much :). They did great
the first period, but then Michigan came out the better team in the second
period and tied it up. We were down at the end where the overtime goal was
scored, but we couldn't tell from our angle if it went in or not. They
weren't showing any replays in the arena and it seemed to be taking a
really long time for them to review it, so we figured they couldn't tell
for sure and would waive it off. We were surprised when they did call it a
goal for Michigan to win the game. We watched the replay after we got home
tonight and still aren't sure if that really should've been a goal.

The second game was great for me as a CC fan. :) Our seats were 5 rows up,
right next to the players tunnel for the CC bench, so I got to see a lot
of the team, and I got to talk a bit with Dave Moross, the CC SID that I
used to help out up in the press box before I moved to St. Louis. I hadn't
been able to watch them play in person in over 5 years, so what a game to
be able to see. At first, when BC scored only 19 seconds into the game, I
feared we might be in for a long night, but CC came back with 4 goals in
the first to take a big lead. BC certainly didn't look like the #1 seed
and defending national champions. One thing that was a nice touch, since
CC doesn't have a pep band, was that the arena played the music CC usually
has at home after they score a goal. I'm sure BC hated hearing that song 8
times in the game. :) After switching goaltenders for the third period, BC
tried to make a comeback and came within 3, but CC managed to hold on and
keep out any more goals, getting a third PPG to end the game. Great game
for CC, and local St. Louis hockey fans definitely got a good look at
their future player Jaden Schwartz, who had 2 goals and 2 assists tonight.

Now it's up to CC tomorrow night to make sure we don't have to listen to
"hail to the Victors" in St. Paul this year. :)
