NCAA puts New Hampshire hockey on probation

The NCAA has placed the University of New Hampshire men's ice hockey program
on probation for two years for recruiting violations that occured during the
2007-2008 season.

According to the NCAA, 30 recruits received e-mails from the UNH staff prior
to June 15 of their freshman or sophomore years of high
school.<http://www.ncaa.org/wps/ncaa?key=/ncaa/ncaa/media+and+events/press+room/news+release+archive/2009/infractions/20090723+d1+coi+univ+of+new+hampshire>An
associate head coach - not named in the NCAA's report - sent more than
900 e-mails to 30 recruits from October of 2007 to April of 2008, sent by a
recruiting software program.

Sanctions against UNH include:

   - public reprimand and censure
   - two years' probation (April 24, 2009 to April 23, 2011)
   - one less ice hockey recruiter who is allowed to be off-campus from
   April 24 to October 23.
   - The 30 recruits will not receive an expense-paid visit to the campus
   - None of the 30 recruits will be allowed to sign a National Letter of
   Intent with UNH
