HOCKEY FALLS AT WENTWORTH, 4-1

BOSTON, MA-Jeff Olitch scored twice and Casey Shade added three assists as host Wentworth defeated the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s hockey team, 4-1, in an Eastern College Athletic Conference Northeast game at Matthews Arena Thursday evening.

Olitch scored the only goal of the first period, at 11:29, to give the Leopards a 1-0 lead. Skylur Jameson and Olitch scored power play goals five minutes apart early in the second period to make it 3-0. Freshman forward Craig Cardone (Westford, MA/Westford Academy) put the Corsairs on the board when he converted a pass from classmate Paul Graham (Quincy, MA/Northern Cyclones) at 10:02, but Joey Sides scored 35 seconds later to restore Wentworth’s three-goal lead. Shade assisted on the first three Leopard goals.

“We were behind, 1-0, and they scored two power play goals to go up, 3-0,” said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach John Rolli, “We scored, but they came back and scored on the next shift, They had some flurries, and we had some flurries, but I thought their two power play goals in the middle period were the difference in the game.”

The Leopards out shot the Corsairs, 33-32. UMD junior goaltender Jon Dryjowicz-Burek (Ludlow, MA/Springfield Jr. Falcons) made 29 saves, while Justin Marriott made 31 for Wentworth. UMass Dartmouth did not convert their lone power play opportunity, while WIT converted two of their five chances.

The Corsairs are now 14-6-2 and 11-2-1 in the ECAC Northeast, while the Leopards are now 12-7-1 and 9-3-1. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they visit Framingham State in an Eastern College Athletic Conference Northeast game Saturday evening.
