Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute has officially announced
the broadcast of its hockey games (via WRPI) on the internet.
The managers of the server have dropped the bandwidth of their
broadcast from 16 Kbps to 8.5 Kbps which is similar to the
broadcasts of other schools. By sending over a smaller bandwidth,
the broadcasts are now available to those poor souls who are
still struggling with a 14.4 connection as well as, (hopefully)
reduce the rebuffering necessary due to network congestion.
Thank you to all those who responded to my earlier posts
requesting comments of RPI broadcasts while WRPI was in test mode.
Your comments were passed to WRPI managementnd presumably were used in
deciding which configuration to use.
The RPI broadcast (as well as all WRPI programming) can be heard at:
http://www.wrpi.org/wrpi.ram
Better yet, WRPI's home page at
http://www.wrpi.org/
contains a link to the internet broadcast. Drop by their home page
and see what else WRPI has to offer.
New, updated copy of "hockey on the net" will be sent later tonight.
