        As a quick aside to this...
        1) I don't think you can compare UMass to Alaska, because there
is no tremendous difference between the schools. 10K to 7K students isn't
a big gap and it sounds like they are reasonable equal in other areas. The
student discrepency here is 22K to 6K, mostly commuters, and just about
all major "UMass" things are done on the Amherst campus, such as the
Conte National Polymer Research Center, which was just dedicated, costing
something like $80 million, and is the foremost center of its kind in the
world attracting Nobel lauriates from all over the planet.
        2) To clarify the UM thing, UMass is reffered to as "UM" on the
official scoresheets for all home games, even ones against UML, with the
exception of Maine. For UMaine "UME" and "UMA" are used going by the
POSTAL codes, not the locations, for then it would be UMO and UMA. No
dice there, confusion averted with no city reference made.
