In one of the recent postings about the "first" intercollegiate
hockey game, the lineup for Brown showed Alexander Meiklejohn as one
of the players. Perhaps HOCKEY-Lers will be interested in knowing that
Meiklejohn turned out to be one of Brown's most distinguished alums --
he was a (perhaps THE) founder of the American Civil Liberties Union,
President of Amherst, and taught at -- among other schools -- Berkeley,
Wisconsin and Cornell. I'd be curious to learn if the hockey lore for
the latter two contains anything on Meiklejohn; back in those days profs
were often linked to sports in ways that seem inconceivable today.
