After far too many weeks with posts detailing just how a particular referee
or better yet a tag team of them are the reason team A lost, I would actually
like to break tradition and compliment a ref.
The referees for the Brown - Clarkson game were Melason and Hern. While I
will not comment on the abilities of Melason, Hern, who represented the ECAC
during the Olympics last month preformed a stellar job of calling the game.
During a critical play, Brown shot the puck into the front corner of the net.
The goal judge turned the light on, but Melason waived it off fiercly.
Standing behind the goal, I will freely admit it definatly hit on the
inside eadge of the net. Melason was standing on the same side the shot came
from and Hern came from the Blue line and made the correct call.

I have seen Hern many times both in college and reffing games in the AHL.
It's great to see a ref who will not make inconsistant calls and let the
players play.
