1) What is your favorite team and/or league? If you consider yourself to
be a fan of college hockey in general rather than one team, please
mention this. How long have you been following this team?
My favorite team is the U. of Minnesota Golden Gophers. I've been
following them pretty regularly since about 1977 while in High
School. I attended Minnesota from 1979-1984 (5 year plan!) While
in school I played snare drum in the pep band, so I attended most
of the games. Former Gopher Scott Bjugstad went to my high
school, and led our school to their first state tournament,
so I especially liked watching his progress. He played for
the North Stars for a while. I think he's with Pittsburgh now.
2) What team are you located closest to during the season (such that you
get to see a number of that team's games or are exposed to media
coverage of that team)? This may or may not be the same as #1.
I live in a Mpls. suburb, so the U. of Minn. is obviously the
closest! St. Cloud State is about 1 hour north, and Duluth about
3 hours north. North Dakota is about a 4 hour drive.
3) Where do you live (city, state, country, etc.)? If you attend school,
what school will you attend in 1990-91?
I live in Plymouth, MN - 10 miles west of Mpls. I attended the U of Minn.
BSEE, 1984.
4) Do you have more than a fan's interest in college hockey, i.e. are
you a player, do you work in a coach's or SID's office, cover the
team for a campus/local paper, etc.? Would you be able to send
information on your team to the list?
I'm mainly a fan of the Gophers, but other college news interests me.
I have access to the Mpls. paper which usually has pretty good articles
about the Gophers, and WCHA in general. I'm looking forward to Carol's
reports from the Minnesota Daily, the campus newspaper!
5) About how many college games do you get to see a year, live or tv?
I have season tickets to Gophers and Vikings football, along with a
partial package to T'Wolves basketball, so my sports dollar is getting
spread very thin. I usually attend 3 or 4 Gophers hockey games, and
watch most of the televised ones (8-10 a year). I have had tix to the
WCHA finals the last 3 years, and the NCAA two years ago and this
coming year, all of which were or will be played in St. Paul.
go go gophers...
