injured-out for the season-Spencer
Coach: Jeff Sauer
Power play: Wisconsin 47 of 250 - 18.8%
opponents 44 of 268 - 16.4%
Overall GF-GA: Wisconsin 168 in 41 games for a 4.09 avg
Opponents 135 in 41 games for a 3.29 avg.
Wisconsin is a very good defensive team but only average or slightly
above average offensively. Over 65% of Wisconsin's goals have been
scored by freshmen or sophomores. Eight players remain from the
championship team in 1990.
People to watch:
Duane Derksen--Hobey Baker award candidate. Suffered a lacerated wrist
injury about a month ago. He is almost fully recovered but he wears a cast
on the injured wrist and it has some effect on his puck handling abilities.
He has 79 career victories which is 4th on the alltime NCAA list. He has
been a very consistent goalie not a flashy goalie throughout his career.
Doug Macdonald--Best puck handler on team. He is the quarterback of the
Badger power play. Leading scorer on the team with 16-26-42. This is a
very low total for the leading team scorer and it gives an idea of the
balance on the team.
Jason Zent--Top team goal scorer with 23. Great wrist shot.
Dan Plante--Big physical presence on the ice.
Barry Richter--Best defenseman on team, best at bringing puck out of
own zone. Played as a winger the past two years. His dad, Pat, is the
UW Athletic Director.
---That's all I have time to write. Good luck to all the teams.
