NORCROSS, FAIRFIELD BLANK BENTLEY, 4-0, IN Q-CUP CONSOLATION

NORTHFORD, Conn. --- Freshman Greg Norcross (Duxbury) recorded a
shutout in his collegiate debut as Fairfield University blanked Bentley
College, 4-0, in the third place game of the Quinnipiac Cup Saturday
afternoon at the Northford Ice Pavilion.
Norcross, who made 25 saves, was supported offensively by
sophomores Ray Metz (Ken, Ohio) and Steve Calderara (Douglasville, Ga.).
Metz had a goal and two assists, figuring in each of his team's first
three scores, and Calderara had a goal and an assist.
The Stags (1-1) jumped in front with two goals less than two
minutes apart midway through the first. Freshman Ryan Tormey (Hanover)
lit the lamp first with a power play at 11:04, and Metz made it 2-0 at
12:52.
Fairfield, which had a 38-25 shot advantage over the 0-2 Falcons,
added single goals in each of the final two periods. Sophomore Dan Cotter
(Franklin) scored on a power play at 11:31 of the second, and Calderara
closed out the scoring at 10:58 of the third.
Bentley senior goalie Ray DeVincent (Waltham/St. Sebastian's HS),
who made 50 saves in Friday's 6-1 loss to Quinnipiac, had another busy
day. He finished with 34 saves, including at least ten in every period.
Bentley launches its MAAC Hockey League slate next weekend with
games at Canisius College Friday night and Mercyhurst College Saturday
evening.
