QUINNIPIAC TAKES THREE OF FOUR POINTS FROM IONA TO OPEN HOCKEY
SEASON

BRAVES, GAELS OPEN MAAC PLAY--Quinnipiac (1-0-1, 1-0-1) opened the third
season of MAAC Hockey League play taking three of four points in a home and
home weekend series against Iona (0-1-1, 0-1-1). The Braves defeated Iona
3-1 on Saturday night as Quinnipiac freshman goaltender Justin Eddy (Apple
Valley, MN) stopped 18 shots in his collegiate debut. Quinnipiac senior
Chris Cerrella (N. Massapequa, NY) scored a goal and an assist to complete a
four point weekend (3-1-4). On Friday evening, Iona eeked out a 5-5 tie with
Quinnipiac scoring an improbable three power play goals in the last 1:04 of
the third period to salvage a tie with the defending MAAC regular season
champions. Sophomore center Mark Hallam (Medicine Hat, AB) tallied a goal
and two assists in the 1:04 span and sophomore forward Ryan Manitowich
(Calgary, AB) scored the game-tying goal with 0:00.5 seconds remaining in
the third period.

OTHER REGULAR SEASON ACTION--American International (0-2-0, 0-0-0) began its
season with two loses at Air Force, 4-2 on Friday and 8-2 on Saturday.
Freshman Trent Ulmer (Bethune, Sask) scored a goal in each game for AIC...
Defending MAAC Champion UConn (0-1-0, 0-0-0) dropped a 6-1 decision to
UMass-Lowell on Friday...Sacred Heart (0-1-0, 0-0-0) was defeated by #16
Colgate 8-2 on Saturday night in the Pioneers' first ever game against an
ECAC Division I opponent.

EXHIBITION PLAY--In exhibition play, Army, behind a hat trick from senior
forward Mike Fairman (Little Canada, MN), defeated Seneca 6-3. The Black
Knights play their first ever MAAC Hockey League contest at Iona on Friday
at 7:30 at the Skate Nation Arena in New Rochelle, NY. ...Mercyhurst
defeated Brock 7-3 on Friday and 5-3 on Saturday evening. Louis Goulet
(Kapuskaking, Ont) and Tom McMonagle (Glenolder, PA) each netted two goals
and three assists on the weekend...Holy Cross netminders Derek Cuhna (New
Bedford, MA), Rick Massey (Weymouth, MA), and Brad Holzwart (Oakton, VA)
combined to shutout Concordia 2-0 on Friday...Canisius finished sixth place
in the Oktoberfest Tournament at Waterloo University in Waterloo, Ont.
