We'd have no sympathy (or I wouldn't, at least) but the reaction would be
just as uncalled for. One could see ethnic taunts as grounds for ejection
from the stadium, but not for physical assault. Another hypothetical
situation: someone in the crowd shouts "Hey, (goalie)! Your mom called;
she said you suck!" If said goaltender's mother had recently passed away,
would such heckling be grounds for a physical assault? Would the answer
be any different whether the fans were actually aware of that death?
 
Hoping "... she wants her kneepads back" is still acceptable,
