Looking at the rink sizes for the WCHA (thanks Doug), it appears that we are
actully only talking about three schools that are big enough to host a
regional (UMTC, UW and UND) so the rest of the WCHA teams could not get a
home game
either. Add to that the CCHA rinks of OSU and UM, and WMU and there are
really
very few on campus sites that could host games out west. The problem is
most
of them are the home rink of perenial NCAA teams, leading to this same
problem every year. In the east, there are plenty of neutral sites near
enough to
have a local host, but not a home ice advantage. Circular problem, unlikely
to
change until regionals sell out reguardless of participants.
----------------
1.) Mabye your schools need to build a bigger ice arena.
2.) UND has a rich alumni that donated a huge ice arena. It actually has had
12000 people in it for a
UofMN and UND game.
3.) I think Munn has had a regional too, I think last season actually.
4.) The NCAA loves Michigan, Minnesota because they are there every year.
5.) C.C. hosted a regional last season and DU played there. Rumor has it
that not many showed up for that one because of C.C. not being in the
tourney.

At Lynah, speed teams can easily be bottled up by the smothering defense and
narrow
ice surface (not to metion 3100 Faithful screaming for 60 minutes).

Big crowd, that is even a small number for most of the smaller schools in
the WCHA and what they draw for a non conference game.
