I'm afraid they don't have the record for futility yet. UAF (Alaska
Fairbanks) pulled it off not once but three times on their home ice in
Fairbanks while giving up a school record 15 shorthanded goals last
season.

Robitaille and Copeland of Miami did it within 17 seconds on the same
power play. They had 46 seconds left in the penalty to go for three but
couldn't pull it off. Robitaille did get another one just 18 seconds
into another power play for Miami's third in the same game which turned
out to be the margin of victory in a 5-2 win. He managed another one in
the same series two nights later although the Nanooks finally got a goal
during the same power play to put a stop to him for a little while.

Michigan's Luhning and Herr pulled the same trick the very next weekend
leaving themselves another 44 seconds to go for three, but Hayes took a
charging penalty to pretty much cut that effort short. Or so you'd
think except this year the Nanooks gave up a shorthanded goal while on a
5x3 power play. Madden and Luhning did it again the very next night as
well. Both nights the two shorthanded goals were once again to be the
margin of victory in 5-3 and 6-4 wins for the Wolverines. The
Wolverines came up with two more shorthanded goals in the same game
although not on the same power play in their third game with the Nanooks
later in the season.
