Sunday night at Meehan Arena, Rhode Island School of Design (pronounced
RIZ-D) handed Wheaton College it's first loss to RISD in years. The game
had several firsts for a team whose mascot is the NADS, and I dont need to
get into what the cheer is......over 30 minutes in penalties *( a big deal
when the norm is 6 minutes) and it actually went into overtime...Geez were
the officials bummed. Wheaton scored first, and was up 2-0 till a NAD
tapped one in just prior to the buzz. The crowd was estimated at 300, a
school record. And if there was a Hobey Bakeresque award for obnoxious (I
dont want to play them) fan award, these kids win hands down. RISD is a
private design school in Providence, Rhode Island. Their hockey team also
plays Clark College, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, and rumored to be
courting Columbia University for a tilt next season. A possible D-1
prospect? Not likely.
