I haven't seen a discussion of this game yet, so I'll summarize
what happened at the Dane on Saturday night. Duluth was all over the
Badgers in the first period outshooting and outplaying Wisconsin to a large
degree. Daubenspeck kept WI in it, and it was only 2-0 in the waning
seconds of the first. The complexion of the game changed in the last
second of the period as WI scored at 19:59 (Strobel, I think). Badgers
mounted some good pressure off that momentum at the start of the 2nd
period, but UMD weathered it. The pressure lapsed again, and Duluth went
up 3-1.
THEN.... about half way through the third period, the offense woke
up. Wisconsin scored three goals in 27 seconds, a new school record, much
to the surprise and delight of the crowd. A few minutes later, WI added
another tally to give the final 5-3 score and a sweep of Duluth. Where
have they been hiding this offense? Let's hope it sticks around for the
NoDak series....
