Neither the University of Maine Black Bears nor the Boston Uni-
versity Terriers had ever been involved in a 0-0 game entering
Saturday night's Hockey East matchup between the rivals at BU's
Walter Brown Arena. But UMaine goalie Blair Allison and BU goal-
ie J.P. McKersie changed that as Allison turned away 21 shots
and McKersie 39 shots as the two teams skated to a 0-0 tie.

Saturday night's game was Maine's third straight overtime game
and its third straight tie. Maine tied UMass-Lowell 4-4 in both
games of last weekend's series at Lowell.

The Black Bears prepared for this weekend's series against BU
by having recordings of boisterous fans played on Alfond Arena's
public address system during practices, to simulate the tight
acoustics at Walter Brown Arena.

Coupled with New Hampshire's 3-2 win over Boston College, the
tie keeps Maine two points behind the fifth place Wildcats, as
the Wildcats have 18 points to Maine's 16.
