BGSU outshoots OSU 50-18 but still loses. Infrequently-used Kurt Brown
was the dufflebag the Falcons couldn't beat--this was his first win of
the season. I am beginning to wonder if BG is just unlucky to run up
against opposing goalies at their best, or if they truly can't shoot
the puck to save their lives.
The stats at the other end tell all: Will Clarke, 27 saves and 10 goals
allowed on the weekend.
There are many other stories to tell from this game. BG allowed its
first penalty shot goal in the history of its program. A second penalty
shot was called but OSU took the 2-minute penalty instead.
The ref-ing was simply atrocious. The 2nd penalty shot call was
terrible, as the Buckeye was attempting to pass the puck--he wasn't
even shooting. The Bucks were screwed several times and put in the box
for no reason. A quick whistle cost BG a goal. OSU was charged with a
time out when they didn't really call it, and the refs gave it back to
them. And so on. (I don't complain about the refs often, so you know
it was bad.)
The BG power-less play is another story. The one they got was on their
2nd 5-on-3 of the game. The nine they failed on were all the
same--pass, pass, pass, bad shot, ice.
The Buckeye players were very pumped up with the win, of course. Funny
thing, tho, even with the 2 wins this weekend, they are still in last
place. Ron White was named CCHA offensive player of the week, by the
way.
