A story by Joni Averill of the Bangor Daily News Staff. My comments are
shown below, indented. Notwithstanding the items highlighted, do you
think women's sports gets the short-shrift here in the Bangor area? I do.

The University of Maine women's ice hockey club, the defending national
club champion,

Er, Maine lost to BC in the Championship game last year. wts

took a 7-3 record into a Tuesday home game with Bowdoin College of
Brunswick

That's Maine (ME), not Massachusetts (MA) for all you pollsters :-) wts

after returning to campus following a successful three-game road trip.

Maine walloped Boston University 13-0 on Friday. In Amherst, Mass., on
Saturday, Maine had another great game, beating the Lord Jeffs 12-0. In
Troy, N.Y., on Sunday, Maine held off a threat from Rensselaer
Polytechnic Institute and claimed that victory 8-7.

Veteran centers Amanda Moors and Stacy Rondeau, along with freshman
Janet Calder, each had hat tricks ( three goals) in Friday's game.

On Saturday, Sue Ayers bested those efforts by putting four pucks into
the net as several other players scored twice each.

Sunday's game was the toughest of the trip, according to club president
Judy Perry.

RPI stuck with the Bears throughout and, while Maine was generally 1-2
goals up, RPI played catchup all game before the Black Bears came away
with the win.

Moors and Heather Diller led the way for Maine this time with two goals
each.

After Tuesday's game with Bowdoin, Maine will host Boston College at
Alfond Arena Sunday at 4 p.m. and Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Jan 31 at 11:50 a.m.
