With the conference post-season tournaments over and the NCAA tournament
almost upon us, it's time to announce the winners of the Pick the
Post-Season Tournament contests. For Contest #2, in which all rounds are
scored the same, we have a three-way tie for first place among Nathan
Hampton, Nick Markham, and me. The tiebreaker is the number of individual
conference contests won, and as I am the only one of the three to win a
conference contest, the Contest #2 winner is...

     Bill Fenwick

with 37 points. The three first-place finishers just edged out Craig
Knowles, Robin Lock, and the CHODR rating, all of whom finished with 36.

As for the individual conference winners...

Andy Weise won the ECACH title with 9.5 points.

Hockey East saw a five-way tie among William Groskreutz, Nathan Hampton,
Robin Lock, Scott Kaplan, and yours truly. William and Nathan remained
tied after the first tiebreaker, each missing the championship game score
by the same number of points, but William took the second tiebreaker, as he
missed the total goals scored in the tournament by only two.

Your humble contest administrator won the CCHA race with 11 points.

Proving again that computers rush in where humans fear to tread, the CHODR
rating finished atop the WCHA with 8 points, ahead of Nick Markham and
Craig Knowles, who each had 7 points.

Atlantic Hockey went to Jim Dixon, who had 9 points.

From last week's update, Troy D. Mills won the CHA in a tiebreaker with 3.5
points.

One scoring note: Once again, there was a tied consolation game, this time
in the ECACH. This time there was a shoot-out, but the NCAA-certified
official result was a tie. So, anyone who picked St. Lawrence or Princeton
to win the ECACH consolation was awarded 0.5 points.

Complete scoring results are below. Congratulations to all the winners,
and thanks again to all those who participated.

Tiebreaker notes: The first tiebreaker was the difference between your
predicted championship-game score and the actual score. Thus, if you
picked the score of the ECAC championship game (actually -- sigh -- 5-0) to
be 4-1, you would get two points; if you picked 1-0, you would get four
points; and if you picked 6-4, you would get five points. Obviously, the
lower the point score the better.

The second tiebreaker was the difference between your predicted total of
goals scored in the entire tournament and the actual number. Again, the
lower the point total the better.

As far as tiebreakers that were actually needed:

For Hockey East, the championship game score was 1-0, and the total number
of goals scored in the tournament was 66.

For the CHA (from last week), the championship game score was 3-2.

The USCHO prognosticators' numbers are included below, as are the "Higher
Seed" picks showing what would have happened if the higher seed for each
game had been picked to win. As in Contest #1, the Higher Seed strategy
would have been a winning one; anyone following it would have picked up a
contest-winning 39 points. (The USCHO picks would have won also, with 38
points, but they don't have to pick the entire tournament beforehand)
