UMASS DARTMOUTH DEFEATS FRAMINGHAM STATE, 4-1

FRAMINGHAM, MA–The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s hockey team rode a hat trick by senior forward Kyle McCullough en route to a 4-1 victory over host Framingham State in an Eastern College Athletic Conference Northeast hockey game at the Loring Arena Saturday night.
McCullough scored UMass Dartmouth’s first, third and fourth goals of the game. Junior forward Tyler Vrolyk (Boylston, MA/New England Junior Falcons) got the Corsairs’ second goal, which was the game-winner.

UMass Dartmouth took a 1-0 lead on McCullough’s first goal of the night. McCullough scored at 3:02 of the first period, assisted by junior forwards Jeff Grant (Burlington, MA/Austin Prep) and Paul Garabedian (Belmont, MA/Belmont HS).

Vrolyk’s goal at 1:37 of the second period put the Corsairs ahead, 2-1. Senior forward Peter Lindner (Parlin, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) and sophomore defenseman Francis Gunn (Winthrop, MA/Berkshire Academy) drew assists. McCullough made it 3-1 with his second goal of the night at 10:50, assisted by senior forward Jim Foley (Brockton, MA/Catholic Memorial HS) and Grant. McCullough’s third goal of the night, unassisted at the 56 second mark of the third period, completed the scoring.
“It was a good, bounce-back victory,” said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach John Rolli. “We had some good chances, and it was good to see that we only allowed one goal. We have to keep it going and win our last two games.”

UMass Dartmouth out shot Framingham State, 44-23, including a 32-11 edge in the final two periods. UMass Dartmouth sophomore goaltender Jeff Green (Medway, MA/Valley Jr. Warriors) made 22 saves, while Ram goaltender Patrick Sampson made 40 stops.

UMass Dartmouth improved to 20-2-1 and 12-1-0 in conference play with the victory, while Framingham fell to 2-19-1 and 0-13-1 with the defeat. The Corsairs will return to action when they host Nichols in an ECAC Northeast game Wednesday evening. That game will be the final home game of the regular season.
