Well at RPI most of the hockey players were NOT engineers. They typically were
management majors. Guys like Neil Hernberg (who did some broadcasting with
me after returning from the Norwegian Leagues) ended up in the working world,
so at least at RPI even management was better than how your typically
not-drafted college football player makes out. From what I can see of the
NCAA hockey program the amount of attention and $$ in the programs just
doesn't create the kind ofabandoment of some reasonable minimum academic
standard for the players tha Basketball and Football creates.

Of course guys like DeCosty and Juneau who were engineers really had to bust
their humps both on and off ice to make it, so the fact that most of the RPI
players had less rigorous majors says something in itself.
