MEN'S HOCKEY FALLS TO ST. LAWRENCE, 3-2
McKenna stops 31 shots to backstop Saints

Junior goaltender Mike McKenna stopped 31 shots to lead St. Lawrence
University to a 3-2 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI)
in
an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) contest before a crowd of
3,146 at the Houston Field House in Troy, N.Y. With the win, the Saints
improve to 10-15-4 overall and 6-8-1 in the ECAC. The Engineers fall to
14-11-2 and 8-6-1.

McKenna finished with seven saves in the first period, 15 in the second
and
nine in the third to improve to 4-1-0 all-time against the Engineers. He
made 20 saves in shutting out Rensselaer, 4-0, earlier this season (Nov.
8).

After a scoreless first period, the Saints broke the ice when senior
forward Ziga Petac scored an unassisted goal at 1:32 of the second
period. After a scramble in front, Petac picked up the puck scored his
third goal of the season on a wristshot over a downed Nathan Marsters,
RPI's goaltender. Rich Peverly had the lone assist on the goal. The
Engineers came back to tie the game with a power play goal by sophomore
Kevin Croxton at 5:17 of the middle stanza. Croxton, RPI's leading
scorer
and among the leaders in the nation in power play goals, picked up the
puck
at the bottom of the left faceoff circle and tallied on a wrister. Kirk
MacDonald and Nick Economakos assisted on Croxton's goal, his 13th of
the
season. With the extra-man goal the Engineers have now tallied at least
one power play goal in each of their last nine games. The Saints
regained
the lead when senior Ryan Glenn finished a 3-on-2 break for his fifth
goal
of the season. Max Taylor had the primary assist on the goal, which came
at the 17:21 mark, while Chase Trull also picked up a helper.

St. Lawrence made it 3-1 when sophomore Adam Hogg scored on a rebound of
a
Tony Maci shot at 7:30 of the third period. Junior Matt Macdonald also
assisted on the goal, Hogg's third of the season. Rensselaer came right
back to cut the deficit to one when Economakos scored a power play goal
on
a rebound of a Scott Basiuk shot at 9:27. Croxton also earned an assist
on
the goal, Economakos's seventh of the year.

Marsters finished with 28 saves for RPI, which was 2 for 7 on the power
play. St. Lawrence finished 0 for 5 with the man-advantage.

The Engineers will host ECAC-rival Clarkson University on Saturday in
the
27th Annual Big Red Freakout! while St. Lawrence will play at league foe
Union College on Saturday. Both games begin at 7pm.
