Brown's Hobey Baker candidate Yann Danis continued his spectacular run
at the nation's best goaltending marks (0.75 GAA; .975 save%) as the Bears
drilled the St. Lawrence Saints, 8-0, in a spirited contest this evening at
Meehan Auditorium. The Bears' senior goaler posted his 3rd shutout in eight
games this season and continues to add to his all-time Brown career record
of 12 shutouts. To date, Danis has allowed a total of 6 goals in eight
games and seems poised to record an unforgettable season in net. [A 7th
goal scored against the Bears was an empty-netter at Dartmouth.]

Playing team defense as well as they have in the young season, the
determined Bears continue to choke off opponent's scoring threats and power
play opportunities by opening up the defensive zone in order for Danis to
get a good look at each shot. Brown currently leads the nation in scoring
defense (0.88 goals per game). Meanwhile, the Brown offense has started to
click for an average of 4.5 goals per game in the last six contests
(coincidental with the return of junior forward Les Haggett to the line-up)
and is presently tied for 6th nationally in scoring offense (3.75 goals per
game). On this particular weekend, the Bears outscored their opponents by a
12-1 margin. In addition, the Bears are leading the nation in power play
percentage (34.2%) and rank 2nd nationally in penalty kill percentage
(93.8%).

Brown scored three goals in the opening period tonight as was never
headed thereafter. At least five of the eight scores were dazzling in both
set-up and execution, and the game videotape may well contain most of the
Bear highlight goals from this or any recent season in memory. The Saints
switched goaltenders at the end of the opening stanza (Mike McKenna for
Kevin Ackley), but to no avail as the Bears continued to find the range with
a relentless series of top-notch plays. All but three players who have
appeared on the ice for Brown have earned at least one point so far this
season.

Three Bear forwards dominated tonight's scoring sheet as freshman Sean
Dersch, freshman Brian Ihnacak and senior Brent Robinson each tallied a pair
of goals. Les Haggett and freshman forward Antonin Roux contributed one
goal apiece. Both Haggett's goal and Ihnacak's second score came with a
man advantage. Ihnacak, Robinson, junior forward Mike Meech and senior
defenseman Vince Macri were also credited with two assists during the
contest. Senior forwards Pascal Denis and Chris Swon, and Roux earned one
assist each.

With tonight's win and sweep of the weekend's games, the Bears are now
21-2-5 in their last 28 games at Meehan Auditorium, dating back to a 3-1
victory over Princeton on January 12, 2002. Moreover, #15-ranked Brown adds
2 additional points to its conference-leading total of 10 and gains momentum
for an all-important ECAC road trip to Cornell (Fri.) and Colgate (Sat.)
next weekend.
