This is straight from the category "Useless Information I'm Willing to
Share".
To satisfy my own curiosity, I analyzed miles traveled by Division I
mens' hockey teams based on this season's schedules. I considered only
the straight-line "crow flies" distances from rink to rink as if team
helicopters were used and I ignoreed practical travel considerations
like plane/bus options and mileage for local lodging. I merely
presumed the Nanooks fly the team helicopter directly from their rink in
Fairbanks to the roof of the Omaha Civic Arena with no stop in
Anchorage.
The summary of the miles traveled by 60 Division I mens' teams and
conference totals is below. I precisely identified on-campus and
off-campus venue locations and travel routes that touch more than one
venue like the typical Eastern school's route, home-rink#1-rink#2-home.
If anyone planning missile attacks has use for my list of GPS grid
coordinates for about 75 Division I rinks (in various formats), you can
find it via the appropriate link from

also more travel detail and the CCHA segment of web pages I'm
constructing from that data to present maps and basic links for every
school's hockey venue. To see a college plant department that has its
mapping function wired to the nth degree, click on the various links to

The web site may go somewhere else when it's complete, but I'll leave it
where is until I finish developing it for next season. I'm also seeking
the best offer for a worn-out crow.
