My reading of point #3 on Attachment A is that a Prospective Student Athlete
would be able to compete for ***one year beyond high school graduation***
without affecting his/her NCAA eligibility.
Right now a number of kids do a PG year at a prep school, then a Jr. year to
get "bigger" (see Halpern, Jeff). For the late bloomer it does seem to
work.
The proposal seems to me to say "you've got one year after HS to "bulk up".
Then you must go to college or lose a yr of eligibility." We may lose a
number of otherwise good players that are late developers.
This will change the recruiting mix, and, IMHO, give an even greater
advantage to the West schools over the East.
