I've been watching BU games at Walter Brown for 6 years and have never seen
an usher take back a puck. The ushers will occasionally check to make sure that
a puck hit into the crowd hasn't severely injured someone, but beyond this they
do nothing. Student fans at Walter Brown have however in recent years taken to
the habit of throwing pucks back onto the rink immediately after they are hit
out. In fact if a fan decides to hold on to a puck hit out of the rink they are
subjected to 30 seconds of "Throw it back" chants, a la the Chicago Cubs. I
have no idea how this tradition was started but I've only really seen it since
the program returned to prominence 2 years ago.
