I will refrain from commenting on Shawn Walsh. There are enough people,
(from Maine as well as other places) who have beaten this issue to death
(which is probably the appropriate place for this thread).
 
One thing I cannot let go without comment.  True, Shawn Walsh brought
a national championship to Maine (although it might have been nice to give
at least SOME of the credit to the fine athletes who actually played). But
to state that this was Maine's finest moment as a university seems to me
to be the biggest insult to U.Maine that I've heard on this list yet.
Finest moment in Maine's sports' history is an appropriate comment. But
aren't we all losing sight of the primary goal of these universities?
 
In my mind, every time a senior was handed a diploma in Orono and sent
out into the real world, THAT was Maine's finest moment as a university.
The NCAA championship banner and trophy are just items of historical interest.
