What the NC$$ is and what it is supposed to be have differed for quite
some time.  Their actions have proven they are concerned with
consolidating their own power and money making ability with little or no
concern for quote unquote student athletes who at least in basketball and
football are cash cows who gain little for themselves unless, usually
without significant external support, they pick up a degree as a
secondary priority (from the school's REAL point of view,) IMO of course.
 
I normally don't condone cheating but there does seem to be little valid
reason to strip Maine of their title although I recall an analogous
situation in the 70s at BU which cost them a number of games, not a title
though.
