The following game account written by Mark Spector is from today's
Edmonton Journal:

CANADA CZECHS OUT OK

        Cry me a Rivers, Czechs.
Canadian defenceman Jamie Rivers scored an unassisted goal with
2:24 to play, breaking a 5-5 tie and completing a come from behind
victory in unbeaten Canada's first test at the World Junior Hockey
Championship.
It was a 7-5 hair raiser at a nearly sold out Olympic Saddledome
in Calgary, and the Czechs gave Canada everything they could handle...
Afterward, Czech team manager Frantisec Cernik complained loud
and long that Finnish referee Jykki Ingnan had undermined them.
He gave the Czechs 8 minor penalties to Canada's 4, plus a couple
of misconducts, and Canada scored twice on the power play...
...It was the Czechs who really showed up for this one,
outshooting Canada 34-31, and one could only imagine the result had they
not been missing six players due to injuries, including star centre Petr
Sykora and team captain Tomas Vlasak...
The Czechs led 5-4 after 40 minutes on two goals by Josef
Marha...and singles from Zdenek Nedved, Petr Cajanek and Jaroslav
Kudrna. Jason Allison, Bryan McCabe, Marty Murray and Todd Harvey scored
for Canada.
Then Wade Redden sifted home a screened shot to tie the game with
4:09 to play (a goal credited to Alexandre Daigle) setting up Rivers low
wrist shot winner...
Then, with the Czechs on a power play and Marik on the bench,
Friesen blocked a shot, and outskated the defence to pot the empty netter
to clinch the game.
