John Kohlstrand asked, concerning Bowling Green logo licensing:

>A guy with a pudgy, football build said that the store doesn't carry
>"MAC" gear. They can't sell it, because it isn't licensed. Notre Dame's is.
>
>Does anyone know what he's talking about? What is this licensing crap, and
>how do you get a license?

Simply put, licensing Bowling Green's logo is the privilege of the
university itself. The right to license does not belong to any individual.
While many have made money by using university (or any other entity)
logos, these undertakings are liable to legal challenge and possibly also
financial restitution to the "injured" party.

The Wisconsin Badger, for example, is a logo which commands a royalty on
every item manufactured. Use of the Badger logo on any merchandise must be
"approved" by the licensing department of the UW-Madison prior to
production and marketing. The licensing department is staffed by an
attorney.

NCAA or MAC are not involved, unless their logos appear side by side to the
university's logo as well.

Hope this helps.
