Colorado College beat Minnesota tonight 9-2, the biggest margin of victory
for CC over the Gophers. CC looked a lot more together and with it
tonight. Captain Kent Fearns started the scoring in the first period
with another one of his shots near the blue line that went right through
Moen's legs. Jay McNeill got the other goal of the first period, a
short-handed goal. In the second, Eric Rud got a goal when he put it
in the top of the net. Moen was replaced by Callinan after that. Scott
Bell finally got the Gophers on the board, but less than 2 minutes later
Peter Geronazzo regained the three goal lead. Kevin Kraft got the other
Gopher goal with about a minute and a half left in the second. The
Tigers exploded in the third period, scoring 5 goals by Tim Sweezo (2),
another for Jay McNeill and Peter Geronazzo, and Colin Schmidt. After
the score was 6-2, Woog switched goalies again and put Moen back in.
Unfortunately, with about 5 minutes left in the game, things started
getting ugly. Several scuffles broke out in the Gopher end and fists
started flying. After people were put into the penalty boxes, then
something else broke out in the box, causing the coaches to lean over
the glass and get involved. I'm not sure what went on there, as I
was on the same side as the benches and couldn't really see, but I'm
sure the tv cameras had a much better view for anyone who was watching.
It took quite a while to sort all of that out.

CC still remains on top of the WCHA with 22 points, 4 ahead of second
place Denver, who was idle this weekend. The Tigers have next week
off, then a pair of games at Alaska-Fairbanks Dec. 30-31.

Jeff Thomas's three stars of the night:

1. Peter Geronazzo
2. Eric Rud
3. Judd Lambert (30 saves)
