If hit in the knee hard enough or unexpectedly, because you are standing on
a frictionless surface, the impact would throw the goalie's legs backwards
and the goalie would fall forward. When falling forward, the normal reaction
is to use your hands to catch your fall. The impact of the fall could break
a bone in the wrist, and if holding on to the stick with the right hand, any
of the four fingers could have broken.

Or, he may have thrown his gloves off because of the hit in the knee, a
shooter may have not realized it and shot. The shot could have hit him in
the hand. That they would not report in the news.
