I guess I didn't realize CC had 900 student-athletes (total enrollment 1,850).
The norm is probably 5-10 percent.  However, at the large institutions it's
small.  Ours is under two percent (approx. 600 SAs with enrollment of 38,000).
 
FYI, the age rule has some exceptions.  An SA who has served military time has
those years exempted and any missionary work (Brigham Young most notably in
football) does not count.
 
IE: Wisconsin's quarterback during their Rose Bowl year several years ago (his
name eludes me) red-shirted his freshman year and received a medical hardship
the next year.  He then did a two-year mission and then transferred to Wisconsin
where, at the age of 23, he still had four years of eligibility remaining and
played as a senior at the age of 27.
