I believe the championship game was at the time of the NCAA Final Four
basketball semifinals - I remember the game starting during the end of the
first semifinal.  Possibly ESPN did not want to continually go against the
final four semis.  Unless the contract between ESPN and baseball has changed,
ESPN does not show baseball games on saturday evenings.
