With only 3 seniors on this years team Steve will be a great
addition. Also I've not seen it posted here, but I may have missed it,
I heard that the bother of John Cullen, who played for BU and is now
with Penguins, has also committed to attend UMO. This comes as a
surprize to me as I figured BU had a lock on him. I heard he's as
good as John. After the season Maine has had, even if they get knocked
out before the final 4, I would guess they would have to be pick 1st
or 2nd next year.
If I had a vote for Coach of the year it would have to be Walsh
I expected Maine to be in the middle of the pack in HE and not to make
the NC$$. I still think BU is the team to beat in the East and that
the NC$$ finals could be Mich and BU. Although I hope it's Maine
in the final. This year's HE play-offs have been the most exciting I
can recall. The Warriors almost pulled of the upset of BU... but for
the most part BU dominated the neutral ice, like I've seen no team do
this year. Merrimack did a great job playing the body against a very
strong BU team.
I got a call at 7:30 in the morning last Saturday from a State
Trooper friend of mine. He had two tickets to the UMASS vs Maine game.
So I got to see the game from center ice section EEE. My thoughts
were that UMASS took their self out of the game with all the clutching
and grabbing. They took many dumb penalties that kept them from playing
with Maine. I thought Dave MacIsaac, for Maine, had the worst game I've
ever seen him play. I noticed a lot of people falling down with no one
around them which seemed strange. However my son Joe (who was at the
game with me and plays HS hockey here in Maine) told me in the three games
he played there this year the ice at the Alfond was the worst he had
skated on. He said there were lots of gouges in the ice surface and
the ice was soft. I figured it might have something to do with the
basketball game played earlier that day. Also anyone who was at the game
did you notice the ref's kick a fan out of the game. He was setting near
the UMass bench. Anyone know what he did to get kicked from the game?
The ref was insistent that they remove him from the game. I've never
seen the ref's have a player removed from a game before, so I was
wondering what he did.
