After most teams would have called it a season, Brown Hockey rallied to
score 8 goals in a solid three period effort. Brown never let up and
played a nearly flawless game, dominating the powerplay and controlling
the overall tempo of play. SLU had to fight back the whole night, and
Burke Murphy & Paul DiFrancesco are certainly part of a much better team
than Brown made them look.
Penalties were also a killer for SLU as they could not stay out of the
box. If it was not a high-sticking call, it was another stick penalty.
These guys were chopping down trees out there. There isn't much room for
that in a college hockey game, especially with Ammian officiating. Bruno
went on the advantage 12 times during the game.
Brian Audette logged a great three periods. Brown has shown the whole ECAC
the depth available in the cage. Freshman Jeff Holowaty had a great period
and a half against Clarkson, letting in one flukey goal, but steering
aside a myriad of point-blank attempts and a couple of breakaways. Mike
Parsons has played stellar all season long in the number one position,
keeping his squad in so many close games. Audette showed everyone last
night that he can hang with the big boys as well, consistently making
three or four saves back to back and putting tough rebounds into the
corners and out of danger. Next year, it looks like putting shots by these
three will be even tougher.
It was good to see Brown rebound after the pummeling by Clarkson. Maybe we
can carry some of this momentum into the tourney.
Although there were only four banners at "Banner Night," the spirit was
still there. It would be nice to see the Meehan sell out for the quarters
next week.
