PRINCETON HANDS MAINE ITS FIRST LOSS

Maine should have realized right from the out set that it wasn't to be its
night. The Black Bears were hit with a two-minute penalty before the game
ever began when they had too many men warming up prior to the start. And
things never got any better as Princeton snapped Maine's 20-game unbeaten
streak with a 3-2 victory for the championship of the Dexter Classic last
night at Alfond Arena in Orono.

It was No. 1 Maine's (15-1-5) first loss this season and came before 5,027
fans. Maine scored first when center Dan Shermerhorn connected at 15:27 of
the opening period, but less than three minutes later Marvin Kopeck tied it
for the Tigers (9-5-1). Princeton took control with early and late goals in
the second period to make it 3-1. Left winger Matt Brush got the first at
2:29 and Corey Rhodes made it a two-goal margin at 18:39. Defenseman Dave
MacIsaac's power-play goal at 4:42 of the third period brought Maine within
a goal, but James Conte's sparkling goaltending the rest of the way stymied
the Black Bears.

Colgate 7, Acadia 6 - Center Tim Loftsgard scored at 1:55 of overtime for
the victory in the Dexter Classic consolation game. The Red Raiders (6-6-1)
overcame a 4-2 deficit with four third-period goals including the final two
by right wing Rob Mara that forced overtime.

Congratulations to Princeton for winning the Dexter Classic and being the
first team to beat Maine this year. They did it at Alfond Arena and they
did it by holding the lead for 37:31. After a slow start Princeton looks
very impressive. The other teams in the ECAC better watch out because the
Tigers are loose! :-)

The consolation game looked like it was an exciting game with quick goals
and momentum swings throughout the game. My only question is what is it
with Arcadia and its Celtic connection?
