A couple of comments:
1) No typo. That's one of the reasons an NHL scout recently labeled
Tamer as the most intimidating individual in college hockey.
2) It's gotta be tough to rack up 515 minutes when no one will skate
near you. :-)
3) Does it surprise anyone that someone from Goon City (er, Columbus, :-)
holds the record? :-)
4) Look for that record to be challenged. A current Ohio State
freshman (Paterson) racked up 164 PIM in 30 CCHA contests and close
to if not more than 200 PIM total for the season. That would put
him on pace for 459 PIM in an NHL season. Just think what he
could do if fighting (hence the opportunity to accrue 5 minutes
at a time) was allowed.
5) Final note: The second place finisher in PIM in the CCHA was
another Ohio State freshman (Skogstad). He and Paterson were the
only two players to hit triple digits in league games. Does
Jerry Welsh actively recruit these guys or are they simply drawn
to OSU for reasons unexplained?
