Position #: 47-01
Clarkson University is seeking a new leader with vision and energy to move
forward with further development of its Athletic and Recreation Programs.
The central challenge will be to establish an environment of support,

the enhancement of Clarkson athletics for all constituencies. The successful
candidate will need to be a strategic thinker who can mobilize the energies
of others; have a record of strong competitiveness in athletic endeavors;
and the skills to build and manage resources. Clarkson is primarily a
Division III intercollegiate participant with 18 D-III sports. The men's
hockey squad is a national competitor in Division I. The new Director should
have experience that will allow for management of multi divisional sports
programs.

This individual will be responsible for providing leadership, setting
athletic policies, evaluating the coaching and support staff, planning and
budgeting for the athletics program and representing the athletics
department to external constituencies.

The qualified individual must be able to demonstrate substantial experience
in athletics and athletics administration at the college level, and a
working knowledge of NCAA regulation is required. Candidates must have an
understanding of the role that student-athletes play in Division I and
Division III programs as well as understanding the importance of
intercollegiate athletics in the student-athletes college experience. A
bachelor's degree required but a master's degree is preferred. This position
reports directly to the Vice President for Student Affairs.

Clarkson is an independent technological university, located in Potsdam, NY
(pop. 10,200). It includes schools of Business, Engineering, Liberal Arts,
and Science. The Graduate School offers programs at the masters and doctoral
levels. There are approximately 2,600 undergraduates and 440 graduates
students enrolled. The campus is situated in the foothills of the Adirondack
Mountains near the St. Lawrence River. Ottawa and Montreal are within 2
hours' drive; Syracuse is 142 mile southwest. Outdoor recreational
opportunities abound. Clarkson is part of a 4-college consortium composed
also of SUNY Potsdam, St. Lawrence University, and SUNY Canton.

Salary for this position will be competitive and dependent upon
qualifications and experience. Anticipated starting date is July 1, 2002.
For full consideration, it is recommended that a letter of application,
