BTW, it's official; just read the press release on USCHO.
(Thought I'd avoid confusion between the advance rumors and the actual
announcement.)

Yeah, that was my thought. UNH and Maine are big-time hockey
schools with lots of fans, but they're also the two HE schools
farthest from the City. RPI is the only school I could see drawing
well, and with their holiday tournament just a week later up the
Hudson... If they really wanted this thing to fly, attendance-wise,
I'd have looked for the inclusion of a Cornell, Vermont, Clarkson, BU,
BC, or even Harvard. And with a one-day event rather than a two-day
tourney, you're making it less worth the effort to come in from out of
town, like the one-day event in Buffalo over Thanksgiving. Thinking
of going in for the day? The last Amtrak train upstate leaves at
8:45pm, so you'll be spending the night at Penn Station waiting for
the 7:20am. If you're coming from New England, there's a redeye to
Boston at 12:35am. (FYI Penn Station is attached to MSG; you'd never
have to venture out of doors.)
