Men's Hockey Scores 13 in Season Debut
Engineers route University of Ottawa 13-3 in exhibition game

TROY, NY – Twenty-one of twenty-three players had at least one point and
the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's ice hockey team scored
four goals in the first period, five in the second and four in the third in
a 13-3 victory over the University of Ottawa in a Division I exhibition
game at the Houston Field House.
Senior forward Kevin Croxton (Calgary, AB/Camrose Kodiaks) had two goals
and two assists, freshman Andrei Uryadov (St. Petersburg, Russia) had two
goals and an assist and senior defenseman Brad Farynuk (Enderby, BC/Vernon
Vipers) tallied a goal and three assists to lead the Engineers, scored at
least 10 goals in a game for the first time since Nov. 20, 1999.

The Engineers got on the board first when Croxton scored a power play goal
on a wrist shot from the left circle. Junior Oren Eizenman (Toronto,
ON/Wexford Raiders), who fed the puck from the right side of the net on the
goal line, and Farynuk (Enderby, BC/Vernon Vipers) earned the assists.
Rensselaer doubled its lead on a goal by Uryadov, who tallied from the
bottom of the right circle at the 8:58 mark. Senior defensemen Keith
MCWilliams (Valencia, CA/Omaha Lancers) and Scott Romfo (Blaine,
MN/Tri-City Storm) were credited with the assists. Ottawa pulled within one
goal when sophomore Michael Barrett (Markham, ON) collected a loose puck
and scored from the right side but RPI would answer two more times before
the period ended. Freshman Matt Angers-Goulet (St. Augustin, PQ/Notre Dame)
put the Engineers up 3-1 with a power-play goal at 14:26. MCWilliams and
Romfo assisted on the goal. Jonathan Ornelas (Mississauga, ON/Milton
IceHawks) wrapped up the scoring in the first period, collecting a pass
from Farynuk and scoring at 17:20.

In the second period, senior Kevin Broad (Humboldt, SK/Chilliwack Chiefs)
took a pass from Uryadov and scored at 1:06. Farynuk put the Engineers up
6-1, netting a power-play goal at 4:30 of the middle stanza. Ottawa's Ben
McLeod (Edmonton, AB), off assists from Dan McDonald and Dion Dhillion, got
the Gee-Gees' second goal on the power play at 6:37 to make it 6-2.

RPI added three more goals in the second and four more in the third for the
final margin. Freshman Mathias Lange (Klangefurt, Austria/New York Apple
Core) earned the win in goal, stopping 15 of the 18 shots he faced before
being relieved by sophomore Jordan Alford (Red Deer, AB/Canmore Eagles),
who stopped five shots in the third period. Martin Bricault (Laval, QC)
made 21 saves on 32 shots in the loss. James Moskos (Andover, MA) made nine
saves in the final 17:08.
